selection有时指“一件精选的东西”，有时指“一组精选的东西”，如一本共有三十篇的文选

select比choose多含“慎重”的意思，作“精选”解。

注意Seldom have I met him in the street等句子里用have I，不用I have。

seize on（或upon）似乎比seize语气重些，如They seized (up) on the opportunity比They seized the opportunity多含“急切”的意思。

seesaw在用作游戏名的时候前面没有a或the。

seem后面不可接as，但可以接as if。

用seek该注意勿犯双重被动的毛病，如不可说The situation has been sought to be improved。这句可以改作An attempt has been made to improve the situation。

a seed是“一粒种子”，seeds是“多粒种子”。

see的宾语后面的不定式没有to。例如：I often see him walk up the hill. 但假使把see改作被动语态，那不定式便该有to。

secure有时带有双宾语。例如：His services secured him a reward at length.
