说“穷”不该用poorness，该用poverty。但说“低劣”该用poorness，如the poorness of his performance。

pour或pour out有时有双宾语。例如：She poured me (out) a cup of tea.

说“磅”在数字后面用pound或pounds都可以，如three pound(s) of sugar和several pound(s) of lard。现在用pounds普通些。

poultry统指“家禽”，并不指一只家禽，前面不可加a，也没有复数形式poultries。

potato有时被用作物质名词，如a piece of potato（一片马铃薯）和a spoonful of potato。

postscript后面接to。例如：There is a short postscript to the new edition.

注意We have to postpone the meeting to Monday里用to。

可以说The letter is postmarked London。

posterity（后世的人们、将来的人们）前面不用the。

posterior和posteriors意思相同，都指整个的臀部，似乎现在用单数形式普通些。

在英国postcard兼指邮局出售的明信片和私人制造的明信片，并没有postal card这名称。

“邮票”不可说postal stamp，该说postage stamp或postagestamp。
