该说I want to call（或draw）his attention to the matter，不可说I want to call（或draw）the matter to his attention。

说“出席于…”用attend或attend at都可以，用attend普通些。

an attempt to do it和an attempt at doing it都可以说，用不定式普通些。

说“学识”习惯用复数形式。例如：He is noted for his scholarly attainments.

attain和attain to有时可以通用，有时不可通用。

The receipt is attached hereto里的hereto在商业信函里往往用，实际不必要。

英美人所说both sides of the Atlantic指英美两国。

说到地方，at指较小的，in指较大的，如in China（国家），in Shanghai（大城市），at Jiangwan（江湾镇）。

astonish比surprise强，astound比astonish更强。

assure是“使…深信”，不是“深信”，如可以说：

除人寿保险以外，说保险通常不用assurance而用insurance。

assume和presume略有不同。I assume that you can do it是“我假定你能做它”，assume后面通常有that，I presume you can do it是“我相信你能做它”，presume后通常没有that。
