该说a hole in the wall，不可说a hole on the wall。

take hold of比take hold (up) on普通。

hog（猪）在英国现在很不普通，但在美国很普通。在英国通常用pig。

hobby是“嗜好、业余爱好”，如My hobby is collecting old coins和Mathematics is my hobby。

除了在hither and thither（到各处）中以外，hither现在很少用。不论说“到这里”或“在这里”，现在通常都用here。

English literature has a history of over a thousand years等句子里通常用has，偶尔用has had。

现在说“历史的”只用historical，不用historic，如下面各种表达方式里都用historical：

hint（动词）后面通常接at，偶尔接of。例如：The letter hints at（偶尔of）his anxiety to do well.

hinder的宾语后面接from和动名词，不接不定式，如可以说That hindered him from going further，不可说That hindered him to go further。

Himalayas（喜马拉雅山）比Himalaya普通，前面都有the。

up the hill跟up hill略有不同。up the hill作“上山”解。up hill作“向高地上去”解，不一定有山，也许只有斜坡或地势略高的平地。

highway有时统指“公路”，如miles of highway。
