容易误译的英语

in red有“穿着红色衣服”之意，但in the red则构成了一条习语，意为“亏本”、“欠债”。习语不能望文生义，否则就可能闹笑话。

in the pink 意为“身体健康”。它与in the pink of condition, in the pink of health同义。in pink才是“穿着粉红色衣服”。

in the light of 意为“根据”、“按照”、“从……的观点”，与“光”无关。

in the green 意为“血气方刚的”、“年富力强的”。in green才是“穿着绿色衣服”。

in the [a] family way（口语）意为“怀孕”。其中冠词用the是英国用法，用a是美国用法。

in the blues 意为“沮丧”、“忧郁”。in blue才是“穿着蓝色衣服”。

in the black 意为“盈余”。

本例的in the air 其意并非“在航空邮寄途中”，而是“未决定”之意，即be in the air = be not decided yet。

in repair意为“完好”、“修好”、“情况良好”。This lathe is under repair 才是“这台车床在维修中”。

in poor fig（口语）意为“健康状况不好”，“健康欠佳”，其反义习语则是in fine [good] fig（“健康状况良好”）。

in parts 意为“分开”、“分［有］几部分”。注意不要与in part混淆起来，后者才是“部分地”、“在某种程度上”等意。

in one's time 意为在“某人一生的巅峰时期”。在本例中的意思是“年轻时”。
