容易误译的英语

［例句］　She cried over spilt milk.
［误译］　她对着已打翻的牛奶哭泣。

cry for the moon（动词短语）意为“想海底捞月”、“想摘天上的月亮”、“想做做不到的事”、“想要要不到的东西”、“异想天开”等。

若将本例改成This is a frank criticism of Mr. Lake's, 即用双重所有格，才是“这是莱克先生提出的坦率的批评”。

count sheep 意为“失眠”（源自失眠时“数羊”可入睡的说法）。

count one's chickens (before they are hatched)是谚语，意为“打如意算盘”、“把理想当作现实”、“盲目乐观”（小鸡未孵出来就把蛋数算作小鸡的数目显然是一种盲目的乐观）。
