容易误译的英语

Dutch uncle（复合名词）意为“严厉地谴责［教训，批评］某人”。

Dutch courage（口语）意为“酒后的勇气”。condemn（及物动词）意为“谴责”。

dry run（口语）意为“试验”、“排练”。上例是祈使句，省略了主语。

dry当形容词时是有“无酒的”和“干巴巴的”这样的词义，但绝不适用于本例，本例用“冷淡的”一意则是很贴切的。

dry goods store（美式英语）意为“布店”，对应于英式英语的draper's shop。

drive one's pigs [hogs] to market 意为“打鼾”，与snore同义。

dress up to the nines或be dressed up to the nines意为“盛装”、“穿得漂漂亮亮”。其中the nines也可写成the 9's。

本例的dream boat（口语）意为“非常理想的东西（尤指汽车）”。

本例的drawing rooms 意为“上流社会”、“上流社交界”，作此解时一定要用复数形式。

本例的drawing room 意为“客厅”、“起居室”，与living room, sitting room同义。
